The Current Announces Partnership with Schell’s to Offer Listeners the Perfect Summer Craft Beer

Schell’s The Current Beer, available in May, features downloadable tracks from local artists

The Current has announced that it is partnering with Schell’s, the oldest family-owned brewery in Minnesota and maker of German Craft beer, to introduce a co-labeled Schell’s The Current beer, available in May.

A cold summer brew that pairs deliciously with hot summer tunes, Schell’s The Current beer is a limited edition of Schell’s seasonal Zommerfest®, a smooth, light Kölsch-style ale. It will be available in 16 ounce cans at bars and liquor stores throughout Minnesota wherever Schell’s products can be found.

“We know that many of our fans love craft beer, and we look at any partnership or promotion through the lens of our audience,” said Jim McGuinn, program director for The Current. “We know our listeners and this is a natural fit.”

In addition to increasing brand awareness of The Current, the station also hopes to introduce listeners to local bands, whose songs will be available in May at thecurrent.org/beer. A list of participating bands and songs will be announced closer to the launch of the beer.

“Local bands and local beer are a great match,” McGuinn said. “We love that we can bring the two together. Through the downloads available at thecurrent.org and upcoming shows featuring these artists, we hope to continue to support our local music scene.”

“Beer drinkers are looking to quench their thirst with a brew that has a good story behind it,” said Ted Marti, President of Schell’s, and a fifth generation member of the brewing family. “We’ve got that covered with 154 years of German heritage, and The Current has that covered with the fantastic local music it supports. It’s a win-win.”

Any revenue generated from the sales of Schell’s The Current beer will go back to The Current and the work it does to support local music.

Summer is over, who wants a Snowstorm?

Summer is mere days behind us, but that isn’t stopping August Schell Brewing from getting started on their annual Snowstorm brew. Every year snowstorm is a different recipe, or style. This year it look like we will be treated to a spiced Belgian-Style Golden Ale. No word on the release date, but look for it sometime in the not too distant future.

Local Beer at the Minnesota State Fair

This is the Minnesota State Fair. We normally don’t mind writing about any beer, but this is all about local beer at the Minnesota State Fair. If you are looking for info on a beer that isn’t made in MN you will have to look elsewhere. We are keeping it local this time. If you go to the great Minnesota get together, and don’t drink Minnesota beer we will seriously doubt your local roots!

MN Craft Brewer’s Guild Beer Hall
Look for nearly every craft brewer in Minnesota to have their beer rotate through here at some point during the fair. (Except brewpubs. Want to talk about brewpub distribution, anyone?)
Michael Agnew of A Perfect Pint will speak about food & beer pairing on 8/29 at 3pm.
2013 State Fair Homebrew Awards Ceremony on 8/24 at noon on the MN Craft Brewer’s Guild Stage.
For full details as they become available check the guild website.

Lift bridge / Ball Park Cafe
Lift Bridge is releasing a Mini Donut Ale just for the Minnesota State Fair. This malty monster will be on tap at the Ball Park Cafe along with several other local craft brews from the likes of Indeed Brewing, and Badger Hill Brewing. The Ball Park Cafe is a must hit for any craft beer fan, especially with their new craft beer battered onion rings made with Day Tripper Pale Ale and served with beer mustard!

August Schell Brewing Company Starts Fresh Hop Series

Schells mosaic pilsLast autumn, Schell’s released Fresh Hop Citra Pils as part of its massively successful Stag Series. The beer was received with so much success they’ve decided to brew a fresh hop beer every fall. A new annual tradition we can all look forward to!

The Schell’s Fresh Hop Pilsner Series will be brewed each year during the pinnacle of the hop harvesting season. Fresh hops contribute aromatic oils and resins that add a unique flavor to the beer. The fresh hopped beers will be brewed in very limited amounts, only 100 barrels will be produced.

This year’s Fresh Hop beer will be a pilsner that is single hopped with Mosaic hops. The Mosaic hop gives a variety of flavors and aromas to the beer, hence the name Mosaic. A fairly new hop variety, Mosaic hops are the love child of Simcoe and Nugget hops. The hop variety can be described as complex blend of floral, tropical, fruity, and earthy flavors.

Look for the Schell’s Fresh Hopped Mosaic Pilsner in kegs and 6-packs. Keep ’em cold and drink ’em fast. This beer is all about the freshness.

Grain Belt – Putting the American in American Lager

The August Schell Brewing Co. has launched a new Grain Belt marketing campaign featuring the phrase, “We are the American in American Lager.” The goal for the new campaign is to evoke the pride and spirit of loyal Grain Belt drinkers.
color_letterhead1Schell’s has invited Grain Belt Facebook fans to share pictures and stories of themselves enjoying the hobbies, passions and experiences that make them proud to be American. To enter the contest you need to share your distinctly American experience (with a Grain Belt beer, of course) to the contest event on the Grain Belt Facebook page.

A new topic will be highlight each month. April’s theme is American restoration. Think of of something like your head under the hood of your ’55 Chevy and a cold Grain Belt on the fender.

At the end of every month a winner will be chosen, and featured in a Grain Belt ad along with their project. A Grain Belt product, your name ,and hometown will also be used in the winning advertisement. The winner will receive a large commemorative Marti family signed printed version of the ad.
