Mayhaw berries are native to the soggy swamplands of the South. They grow on trees and are small, round, red, tart fruit (about 1/2 to 3/4 inch in diameter).
Abita’s Mayhawk is a Louisiana take on a Belgian Golden Strong Ale. A traditional Belgian yeast strain provides a bright blend of subtle fruit and spicy notes. These fruity notes are enhanced by the addition of Louisiana Mayhaw Berries which leaves a slightly tart finish and subtle haziness.
It is also brewed with pilsner and wheat malts, Noble Hops and large amounts of candy sugar. The ABV is 6.8 and IBU is 24, so it’s a definite sipper with just a hint of hops!
